Filming a video in your business is easy. Getting people to watch it is the hard part. Most of the difference is in the edit, and you don't need a film crew to get it right.
1. The first seconds decide everything
People decide very quickly whether to keep watching or scroll on. Start with the most interesting part: the result, a question or something moving. Long intros go at the end, or not at all.
What to do: put a short line on screen that says what the video is about from the very first second.
2. Cut more than you think
Silences, "ums" and moments where nothing happens really stand out in a reel. A quick pace makes a video feel more professional, even when it's filmed on a phone.
What to do: cut every time the idea or the shot changes. If you're not sure a bit is needed, it isn't.
3. Always add subtitles
Lots of people watch reels with the sound off. Without subtitles, your message gets lost. They also help people who don't speak your language well.
What to do: big subtitles, two lines at most, away from the edges where the app puts its buttons.
A good reel isn't filmed. It's edited.
4. Make it look like you
If every reel uses different fonts and colours, nobody connects them to your brand. The same colours, the same font for on-screen text and a similar ending help people recognise you before they see your name.
What to do: set up a small template with your colours and fonts and use it in every video.
5. One format for each platform
The same video doesn't look the same everywhere. For Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, go vertical 9:16. For the feed or LinkedIn, 4:5 sometimes works better.
What to do: film vertically and leave space around the important part, so you can crop without losing anything.
