When you start a business, the brand and the website usually come last, after the premises, the paperwork and the suppliers. The problem is that people start looking for you from day one. Here's what's worth having ready so they find you and recognise you.
1. A name that works in several languages
In Tenerife you talk to locals, tourists and residents from all over Europe. Check that your name is easy to read and say in both Spanish and English.
What to do: before you decide, make sure the domain and the Instagram handle are free.
2. A simple logo and palette
Your logo will live on a sign, a profile photo, a business card and maybe a T-shirt. The simpler it is, the better it works everywhere.
What to do: two or three colours, two fonts and a small version of the logo for social media.
3. Your Google profile from day one
Lots of local searches end on Google Maps. If you're not there, for many people you don't exist.
What to do: set up your Google Business Profile with photos, opening hours, website and the same description you use everywhere.
Being found is step one. Being recognised is step two.
4. A small but clear website
You don't need twenty pages. You need people to understand in a few seconds what you do, where, and how to contact you.
What to do: start with a homepage, your services and contact. Make sure the domain and hosting are in your name.
5. Social media with the same look
If your website goes one way and Instagram another, it's hard to recognise you. The same colours and fonts everywhere make you look like a brand from the start.
What to do: set up a few simple branded templates before you start posting.
6. Digitalise the basics
Digitalising your business doesn't have to be complicated. An email on your own domain, WhatsApp Business and an easy way to book or ask for a quote already make a big difference.
What to do: only pick the tools you'll really use, and connect them to your website.
